Following the closing date for receipt of Branch Xmas Cards, I am absolutely delighted to advise that we collected in a grand total of 793 signed cards. This is an outstanding return from a branch of approx. 1,450 members. Our decision to do the double whammy of direct mailing and steward issue/collect, has obviously worked well. Especially as the breakdown reads 206 returned by freepost, and the remaining 587 collected from various stewards.
As a national branch, with membership stretching across Scotland, the process of batching these post codes to the various constituencies proved a little more onerous than 1st thought. However, this was down to us underestimating our returns. In total, we had to batch the cards into 60 constituencies! Ranging from 1 card to over 40 for respective MSP’s.
The branch cards were delivered to West Campbell Street Glasgow today, and these will be batched together with all other health branch returns for the publicity stunt at Scottish Parliament on 20/12/17.
Despite the relatively positive news from Scottish Government yesterday on Public Sector Pay, the figures quoted still do not meet the full Unison Scotland demands for NHS staff, and the campaign is still active. However, let us not be in any doubt, that if it was not for the Scrap the Cap Campaign, led by UNISON Scottish Health Committee, resulting in a massive success of the march in Edinburgh on October 7th, combined with social media campaigns, even the figure of 3% would not have seen the light of day.
