Member Story 1

A number of incidents had happened that caused me to be put through both the disciplinary and capability process.  I had to seek out Unison representation and a Scottish Health Care branch steward was assigned.  A lot was going on in my private life and unknown to me at the time this had spilled out into my working life causing me to not be myself and resulting in a host of problems with my work.

The help and understanding from the Unison steward was second to none. Done everything in their power to help, during any meetings they always listened and represented my interests. Their knowledge in employment rules and regulations is extensive. There were a number of issues and points in my case which again the steward was on top of all the time. They were 100% on the ball!  I had been made to feel comfortable and with an understanding manner the steward steered me through a difficult time.

The issues are mostly resolved now and what little is left are well on the way to be concluded to a much better degree than one might have hoped for.

I can only speak for my experience in which I received a lot of help and an understanding ear!

The steward is a credit to Unison and  I only hope the other Union stewards be allowed to learn from her

Thanks Unison. You have been great

In 2020 the on-call function of my role was stopped as it no longer met the needs of the business. I knew I was entitled to protected pay but had stopped receiving these payments when the on-call function ceased.

I contacted Unison as I had spent months liaising with different areas of the organisation trying to find out how protected pay worked without success. Unison quickly escalated my issue and worked swiftly with HR and senior management to initiate a formal consultation.

After the formal consultation was accepted, Unison then liaised between payroll and I to make sure I received several months of backdated protected pay and ensured future payments were accurate too. My particular situation was very complex and nuanced and I don’t think I would have been able to navigate it without Unison’s intervention.
